Jeannie Marie Thomas (Hair) of Tequesta, FL went home to heaven on December 28, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Thomas, her parents Leroy and Nettie Hair, her sister Gladys Wilder and her brother Doyle Hair.
Born in Plant City, FL in 1931, she moved to Tampa in 1942, where she graduated from Hillsborough High School. In 1949, she attended FSU in Tallahassee, where she met and married Jerry Thomas of West Palm Beach, in 1951. They were happily married until his death in 1980. She graduated from FSU after the birth of their 4th child in 1956.
After their return to West Palm Beach in 1957, Jeannie worked with Jerry in his brokerage firm, was very active in his political endeavors which included the Florida House of Representatives, the Florida Senate and in 1974 his run for governor. After his death, Jeannie served on the Board of Barnett Bank which purchased First Marine Bank, started by Jerry.
Jeannie was the devoted mother of 5 children: Robbie Thomas of Stuart, (Robert) children Ricky, Jr., Jeremy; Larry of Hobe Sound, (Colleen) children Larry, Jr., Miles, Brandon, Jeannie; Ken of New Port Richey, (Gloria) children Ken, Jr., Heather, Ashley; Jerry of Jupiter, (Teresa) children Jerry, Jr., Tyler, Dacia, Brittany, Hayley; Cindy Stuart, (Pete) of Draper, VA, children Michael, Ashley. A total of 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
In 1988, Jeannie married James L. Irwin of New Jersey and Jupiter. They had 28 great years together.
A visitation will be held at Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home on Monday, January 2, 2017 at noon with the service following at 1:00 p.m. A private graveside burial will immediately follow and a reception for all family and friends will be shortly after at a location to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice of Palm Beach County.
Jeannie greeted everyone with a smile and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
