Jean Elizabeth Griffin, age 96, a long-resident of Tequesta, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at her home in Tequesta. Born in Brownstown, IN on May 20, 1920, Jean attended grad school and high school in Brownstown and Waynetown, IN where she was the valedictorian and President of her High School class. After High School and Business College, she moved to Indianapolis, IN and became an executive secretary for the Burroughs Corporation. Married to Leonard, an Army Air Corps pilot in 1942, she moved from Air Corps base to base in the U.S. with him until 1944, when he deployed overseas in WWII. Jean had three children, Bob of Virginia Beach, VA, Chris of Tequesta, FL (deceased in 2009) and Susan of Falls Church, VA which were her self-proclaimed greatest accomplishment in life. During the years from 1946-1978, the family moved from Indianapolis to Lafayette to South Bend, IN and Louisville, KY where her husband was a Sales Manager and Branch Manager for Burroughs Corp. Jean and her husband retired to Tequesta, FL in 1978 where she remained until her death. Jean volunteered as a Camp Fire Girls Leader, a Kiwanis Auxiliary member and as a Jupiter Medical Center "Pink Lady" volunteer for 14 years. She also served as a Condo Building Rep. for many years in Tequesta Gardens. Jean enjoyed reading, cards, gardening, cross word puzzles and cooking. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard (2000) and son Chris (2009). She is survived by her son Bob Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Susan Chesser of Falls Church, VA; granddaughter Erin Askar of Ventura, CA; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Danielle. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the American Lung Association 2701 N. Australian Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 in Jean's name.
