Golf Emblem

Harsin, Harry G., 77, of Belmar, NJ and Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away on September 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Harry was born in Ocean Twp., NJ and graduated from Asbury Park HS and Rutgers University Turf Management School. He earned his nickname "Hoppy" for the way he ran so fast up and down the basketball court like a rabbit. He also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Harry's passion was golf. Whether it was playing, maintaining or building golf courses. Harry excelled in all aspects of the sport. He was an active member and past President of the NJ Golf Course Superintendents Association (NJGCSA) and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) for 40 plus years. He was admired and looked up to by his peers for his strong dedication and hard work ethic. Harry worked at several golf courses throughout the shore area, starting with Colonial Terrace in Ocean Twp., Twinbrook, Jumping Brook, Manasquan River, and US Homes to name a few. He was still employed by Colonial Terrace as a consultant until the time of his passing. Harry also worked as a Bartender at the Barclay Banquet Facility in Belmar for over 25 years, and had his own landscaping business throughout his career. Harry was also very active in the community. He was one of the original founders/organizers of the Belmar Five Mile Run, ex-captain of Goodwill Hose Company, Belmar Shade Tree Commission member, and longtime coach for Belmar Recreation Basketball and golf coach for Saint Rose HS golf team. In Florida, he was on the board of directors for the Magnolia Bay Community Association and proud member of the PGA National Golf Club and served on the Greens Committee. Harry was very dedicated to his family as a loving husband and father. He loved meeting up with Joe and the boys in the morning at Taylors Hardware. Harry lived hard, worked hard, and played hard and will always be respected by his family and friends. Harry was predeceased by his parents Harry C. and Olive. He is survived by his loving wife Rita; children Harry M. (Eileen), Stephen, Carolyn, Jonathan (Kim), Phillip (Jennie), Allison (Ben), and Andrew (Kristen); nine grandchildren, Christian, Paige, Collin, Justin, Brett, Damara, Drew, Ryleigh, and Tatum; sisters Janice Henry and Linda Harsin. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Rd, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410, (561) 626-8626.
