Harold William "Bill" Johnson, Jr. (89) of Tequesta died peacefully in the care of Hospice and his family on September 26, 2017 at Mangrove Bay in Jupiter, FL. Born and raised in Freeport, NY by his loving parents, Harold W. and Esther B. Johnson, Bill led a truly wonderful life filled with family and friends.
In high school and college, Bill was a lifeguard at Jones Beach State Park, Long Island where he met Nancy Cullin of Bayside, NY, his wife –to-be. Bill graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT in 1950, married Nancy and entered the Army. During the Korean War, he served as a lieutenant at several stateside posts and in Germany. On leaving active service, he transferred to the Army Reserve where he served for many years and retired Colonel. Bill joined the pharmaceutical firm of E.R. Squibb & Sons in 1955 as a sales representative, and spent 18 years in various sales and sales management positions in the greater New York area. In 1973, continuing with Squibb, Bill and Nancy moved to Tequesta. In retirement, he was a member and past-president of the Tequesta Country Club. Over the years, Bill and Nancy enjoyed Scouting with their two sons, traveling, sailing, skiing, tennis, golf and good restaurants together.
Bill lost his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy Cullin Johnson, in April 2016 and is survived by his sons, Donald Michael (Dianne) of Avon Lake, OH and Mark Cullin (Mary Ellen) of St. Louis, MO grandchildren Brian Johnson (Toby) of Chicago, IL and Kathryn Beachler (Blake) of Avon, OH, great-grandsons Cullin, Griffin and Briggs Beachler, as well as his sister, Marjorie Cassidy of Wesley Chapel, FL , and many extended family members and friends at Mangrove Bay, in and around Jupiter/Tequesta and around the globe.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation of TrustBridge Hospice.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 5:00PM and then 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter. A Mass of Resurrection will be held 12:30 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 204 N U.S. 1, Tequesta. For online condolences and directions, please visit
