Gertrude Ohnmacht, 84, died suddenly at her home in
Jupiter, Fl on January 29, 2017.
Gertrude Matis was born on July 28, 1932 in
Somerville, NJ. She attended Lafayette Elementary
School and Somerville High School. She married
Walter Ohnmacht on October 4, 1953 at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Bound Brook, NJ. They and their
family lived in Somerville for many years, then
moved to Bridgewater in 1976 and retired to
Lavallette, NJ in 1992. Gertrude worked at Ortho
Pharmaceutical Corp. in Raritan, NJ, established and
operated a day-care program at First Reformed
Church in Somerville, and spent many years as
Payroll Administrator for Egan Machinery in
Somerville. In retirement she and her husband Walter
divided their time between their dual homes in
Lavallette, NJ and Jupiter, FL. She was a longtime
parishioner at Immaculate Conception Parish in
Somerville where she served as President of the
Rosary Altar Society. In Florida she was a
parishioner at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years Walter
and her three children: Susan of McLean, VA, Mark
of Washington, DC, and Kurt of Jupiter, FL; two
grandchildren Tyler and Briana of Land O' Lakes,
FL; niece, Lyn Van Gorder and nephew, Bill
Ohnmacht of Somerville, NJ, and niece, Sandy Ihnen
of Indiatlantic, FL; three great nieces, Jennifer Van
Gorder of Reston, VA, Jessica (Ohnmacht) Kari and
her husband, Sina of Rockaway, NJ, and Katerina
Ohnmacht of Somerville, NJ; great nephew, Brandon
Ihnen of Indiatlantic, FL; sister-in-law Joan Mathis of
Somerville, NJ; cousin, Michael Kicia of Somerville,
NJ; and many friends in Somerville, Lavallette and
Jupiter. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for St. Peter
Catholic Church in Jupiter, FL on February 10 at
10:00 am. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for March 10
at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in
Somerville, NJ. To send condolences to the family,
