ROFF, MD, George J.
George J. Roff, MD, 77, of Jupiter, Fla., and Athens, N.Y., passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016, following a stroke. Born on August 10, 1939, in the Bronx, N.Y., to George E. and Katherine M. Roff, he was a graduate of The Bronx High School of Science, the City College of New York, and the Albany (N.Y.) Medical College. A psychiatric residency at New York Hospital/ Westchester Division was followed by two years at Irwin Army Hospital, Ft. Riley, Kan., where he treated soldiers returning from Vietnam. In 1971 he was named clinical director at Rye Hospital Center. In addition to a private practice, he worked with troubled adolescents at Green Chimneys in Brewster, N.Y., and specialized in the care of geriatric patients. George is survived by Mary E. Roff, his loving wife of 33 years; his son, Peter Roff, of Alexandria, Va.; daughters Lisa Konrad of West Harrison, N.Y., and Debbie (Pete) Falcone of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; grandchildren Alex, Miriam, Thatcher, and Samuel Roff and Nick and Lucas Falcone; and brothers Jack (Josie) Roff of San Antonio, Texas, and Tim (Maggie) Roff of Fishkill, N.Y. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the medical staff of ICU-C at St. Mary's Medical Center, as well as the hospital's pastoral staff for the excellent quality of care provided him during his recent hospitalization. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, November 4th at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 am Saturday, November 5th at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1701 Indian Creek Parkway, Jupiter. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's memory to the George Roff, MD '65 and Mary Roff Endowed Scholarship Fund c/o Albany Medical College, 43 New Scotland Ave., MC 119, Albany, NY 12208. "Papa George" will be missed by those who knew him and those who loved him.
